Beauty is not separate from function or experience; it is part of how places, objects and environments affect us.
Archive of Beauty Institute is an independent research institute and creative practice focused on neuroaesthetics and sensory quality.
It examines how material, sensory and cultural conditions shape the way people experience places, objects and brands.
Meet the Founder
Founded by Jean Linda Balke, the Institute grows from a career that began in photography and video installation in the arts and developed through art direction, fine jewellery, luxury brands, hospitality, destination concepts, cultural events and publishing.
After years of working with images, models and locations, Balke trained in goldsmithing and developed Nallik, an independent fine-jewellery brand that grew from five necklaces into an internationally stocked business with its own store and 52 international retailers. Her work expanded into objects, retail, distribution, spatial and narrative projects, and the direction of cultural experiences like TEDx and Think Big
Through The Quarterly, she translates research, conversations and observations into features, findings, discoveries and working frameworks concerning beauty, perception, materials, places and experience.
